Vietnam War Grunts in the Bush

You want to understand the Vietnam War, but the big histories feel like homework and the memoirs assume you already know what a platoon is. You want a first book that pulls you in the way a good novel does.

This audiobook follows one documented US Army infantry platoon through a single twelve-month tour. You arrive at the replacement depot with the new men, lie awake on your first night ambush, sweat out the monsoon on a firebase, and then live through the hardest firefight of their year before the medevac lifts off and the freedom bird flies home. Eight named soldiers carry the story, each easy to keep straight, and ranks and unit sizes get explained once as they matter. The Vietnamese soldiers and villagers across the wire appear as people whenever the record allows. Every scene stands on real testimony, with no invented quotes.

By the last chapter you know these men, and the epilogue tells you what became of them. Press play and start the tour.
