When one afternoon Mrs Victoria Scott, a fairy-like apparition, asks the master detective for help in solving the mystery of her missing husband, Holmes and Watson immediately begin their investigation. The great Damiano is said to have made Mr Scott vanish on stage during his magic show at the Adelphi Theatre.
