Only Ever Evonne

The astonishing life of Evonne Goolagong Cawley, one of Australia's most decorated tennis players. The Evonne Goolagong Cawley story is about a girl from a small country town who started hitting tennis balls against a brick wall with a stick. It is about a 12-year-old who left her family and moved to the big smoke to chase a dream. And it's about a Wiradjuri woman who made history by winning Wimbledon – twice – and becoming the number one tennis player in the world. This is the story we know, but there is so much more to it. In the pages of her new memoir, the beloved sportswoman shares untold memories of her childhood in Barellan, where she grew up in a warm home with her parents and seven siblings. She gives thoughtful reflections about her experiences as an Aboriginal woman in a white-dominated sport, her struggles with a domineering coach, and her epic love story with husband Roger. And she opens up on her hopes for the future of tennis, the country and First Nations peoples. Only Ever Evonne shares the truth about her remarkable journey.
